Project 6: WHAT WHY HOW WHAT IF ( WWHI Proposal )

WHAT: What is the subject or area that you intend to research? What is the precise

the question that you will be addressing?

The areas I would like to investigate include dyslexia, and augmented reality. Specifically, I would like to address the issue of exploring the various connections between augmented reality and dyslexia. And to use AR, a multi-sensory approach, to assist children with dyslexia (<12 years old) in learning and to improve their independent learning and self-confidence.

WHY: Why will this research be of value to you – and the world?

I hope that my research will lead to a deeper and more accurate understanding of dyslexia. For parents, classmates, and teachers, dyslexic children will no longer be seen as mentally retarded. Also, for the children themselves, to stop developing lifelong mental health and behavioral difficulties, and minimize anxiety and mental distress for the children. And for me, it will develop my empathy and give me a new skill in AR.

HOW: How will you accomplish your project in practical terms? What will be your

methodology, management strategy, and schedule?

I have divided my project into three parts.

Early Intervention Design and Exploration: This requires me to have a general plan and vision for the project, to reach out to the people I want to study in advance, understand their needs, and pre-test to verify the possibilities of my intervention. (This part requires: SWOT analysis, pre-questionnaires, secondary research, video interviews)

Mid-term implementation and improvement: This part was to start producing AR-related reading materials after I finished the pre-study, which required me to fit their experience of using it, and to communicate with the stakeholders in time to refer to their feedback and improve my project when I made some progress. (This part requires: the use of unity 3D software and questionnaires)

Post-optimization and reflection: I should have finished the materials at this stage, which required me to formally put the product into a larger environment and follow up on its advantages and disadvantages of it, and perfect my work after a long period of practice. (This part requires: video interviews, the use of feedback questionnaires)

What IF: What are the positive implications and potential if you achieve this mastery? How will this position you (and your stakeholders) at the end of the course? Course?

If I can complete this project well, it will mean a lot to me. I will gain more knowledge about psychology and computer science, which will help me to understand the world from a new perspective. Secondly, I will be more confident in interviewing and engaging with others, as I used to be a shy person and afraid of interacting with people. Finally, this could potentially affect my future career plans, and I may be able to move my career closer to these areas.

For my stakeholders, I believe it will be children with dyslexia or even all children who cannot read properly. As well as psychotherapists and people related to the computer field.
